Fighting for a Healthier California
Our Advocacy
At CCHI, advocacy is at the heart of our mission.
We work to ensure that the experiences of underserved communities across California are reflected in the policies that shape health access and equity.
Our advocacy efforts aim to protect and expand resources for organizations statewide, uplift community health needs, and influence state and federal-level changes.
Through our Day at the Capitol Event, our Don’t Cut Care for Kids Campaign, and our regular legislative updates, CCHI drives meaningful progress to advocate for a future where all Californians can access the care they need!
2025 Day at the Capitol: Legislative Priorities
-
Introduced by Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula and known as the “Health4All Bill”, Assembly Bill 4 (AB 4) is a legislative proposal that aims to expand access to health insurance for undocumented immigrants through Covered California.
This bill would allow individuals, regardless of immigration status, to enroll in health insurance coverage through Covered California and eliminate immigration status as a barrier to health coverage.
-
Introduced by Assemblywoman Mia Bonta, the Head of the Health Committee, Assembly Bill 298 (AB 298) aims to eliminate out-of-pocket health care costs, such as copayments and deductibles, for individuals under 21 years of age.
This bill aims to ensure that families can seek necessary medical care for their children without the financial burden of out-of-pocket expenses.
-
Introduced by Senator Jesse Arreguin, the Chair of Human Services, Senate Bill 81 (SB 81) aims to prohibit health and care facilities from sharing patient information with immigration authorities.
Specifically, SB 81 proposes amendments to California’s current law, the Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA) to include immigration status and place of birth within the definition of “medical information”, ensuring its protection.
This change would legally restrict healthcare providers from disclosing such information to immigration authorities, ensuring that undocumented individuals can access care without fear of impacting their legal status.
Don’t Cut Care for Kids Campaign
Launched in June 2025, CCHI’s “Don’t Cut Care for Kids” Campaign is a national, community-driven effort to protect funding for the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) Healthy Kids Program.
This federally funded program is a vital source of care for millions of children, parents, and pregnant individuals throughout the country.
With potential threats to these funds on the horizon, we are mobilizing advocates, uplifting local stories, and coordinating with partners to ensure that policymakers understand what’s at stake!
